iOS 27 Is Here: Every New Feature, and the Full Device Compatibility List

Apple pushed iOS 27 out on September 14, 2026, and unlike most yearly updates, this one isn't just a batch of small refinements stacked on top of last year's design. The headline feature is a real rebuild of Siri, and which parts of that rebuild an iPhone actually gets depends heavily on which iPhone it is.

The Headline Feature: Siri AI

iOS 27 replaces the assistant most iPhone owners have spent a decade quietly avoiding with something built to actually hold a conversation. Apple calls it Siri AI, and it behaves closer to a general-purpose chat assistant than the command-parsing Siri that came before it: natural follow-up questions, awareness of whatever is currently on screen, personal context pulled from the device, and up-to-date answers from the web. It launches English-only with daily usage limits, and it isn't available in the European Union at launch, held up by the EU's Digital Markets Act.

The Quieter Changes That Actually Get Used Daily

Past the AI headline, iOS 27 ships a handful of smaller features that solve real, specific annoyances. iPhone Handoff lets two iPhones share one phone number, switching which device is active without a SIM swap, useful for anyone who splits time between a personal and work phone. Apple Cash can now split a receipt directly through Wallet, Messages, or Camera's Siri mode, though that one's US-only for now. Find My gained custom, time-limited location sharing and a way to pause sharing with one contact without the rest of your shared list noticing. CarPlay can now show video apps on a compatible car display, but only while the car is parked.

Design and the Boring Wins That Matter More

Liquid Glass, the translucent interface layer Apple introduced the previous cycle, gets a refinement pass here: more uniform refraction, better contrast against busy backgrounds, sharper app icons, and a clarity slider for anyone who found the effect too aggressive. None of that will make headlines, but the performance numbers might matter more day to day: Apple states app launches are roughly 30% faster, the Photos library loads about 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers roughly 80% faster. Those are the kind of changes that show up in how the phone feels within the first ten minutes, not in a keynote slide.

The Full Device Compatibility List

iOS 27 installs on the iPhone 11 and every model since, but "installs" and "gets every feature" are two different questions. The table below covers both.

*The iPhone Duo was announced alongside the iPhone 18 lineup but doesn't actually ship until October 23, 2026, starting at $1,999 for the 256GB model. It's Apple's first foldable iPhone, opening from a 5.4-inch outer display to a 7.6-inch internal one, and it skips a telephoto lens and Face ID in exchange for the folding hinge and an under-display FaceTime camera.

Why Some iPhones Get More Than Others

The cutoffs aren't arbitrary. Full Siri AI, the version with adjustable voice pace and the highest dictation accuracy, needs the newest chip and memory Apple has, which is why it's limited to the current top tier. Standard Apple Intelligence needs enough RAM to run the on-device models at all, which is why it stretches back as far as the iPhone 15 Pro but skips the non-Pro iPhone 15 sitting right next to it on a shelf. Everything older than that still gets iOS 27's real, non-AI improvements: the rebuilt system search, an upgraded CPU scheduler, and the Liquid Glass refinements, just without anything Siri AI touches.

What This Means If You're in Nepal

iOS 27 rolls out the same day everywhere, so no local delay there, but Siri AI's English-only, US-leaning feature set (bill splitting, some Apple Cash features) means several of the flashiest additions won't do much for a Nepali setup at launch regardless of which iPhone it's running on. If an iPhone 18 or the Duo is on the wish list, remember Nepal has no official Apple channel, so pricing and actual arrival here will follow whatever the grey-market import timeline looks like this cycle, typically a few weeks behind the US release at minimum.
